Charles Cornwallis

Charles was born in London in 1738. He was the son of Earl Cornwallis and was educated at Eton. Cornwallis began his military career  in the Grenadier Guards at the age of 18. He became a major general in 1775. In 1776 Cornwallis arrived in New York where he became second in command to Henry Clinton. In 1781 He deeply depleted his army and supplies so he was forced to withdraw from Yorktown. In September of 1781 American and french troops surround Cornwallis and the British troops. On October 17 Cornwallis surrenders. Latter in 1786 He becomes the governor of Indiana and in 1797 becomes the governor general of Ireland.
